Sufi Wisdom and Spiritual Consciousness is an attempt to present in a nut shell to the lay readers a few chapters of Holy Quran, briefly state the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), present writings on Sufism by Hazreth Ali Hajweri Data Gang Baksh ( book written in 1060 AD), a few lectures of a great saint of Baghdad Iraq, Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (d.1166), excerpts from the book of Al Ghazzali (d.1111), stories on Sufi Saints by Shaikh Farid Al Din Attar (d.1220), excerpts from Bustan by Shaikh Sadi (d.1292), excerpts from Moulana Rumi (d.1273), excerpts from Fawaid ul Fawad by Hazreth Nizamuddin Auliya (d.1325) excerpts from letters of Shaikh Sharfuddin b. Yahya Maneri (d.1381).
It is hoped that readers will develop interest to read the original classical works on ‘Irfan/tasawwuf’ or popularly now known as Sufism.
S.L. Peeran hails from an illustrious family of erstwhile Mysore State. His great grandfather was a renowned Arabic, Persian & Urdu scholar & poet and was bestowed with a title of ‘Siraj-ul Ulma’ (Sun Among Scholars). His grandfather received the title of ‘Moin-ul-vizarath’ (Pillar of Ministry) from late Maharaja of Mysore for his services to the State. His father was an Engineer and also Sajjada-Nishin of Darga of Saint Hazreth Qader awaliya Kirangoor, Srirangapatna.
Peeran had his graduation from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore during 1969 in Natural Sciences, completed Law from Govt. Law College, Bangalore and Post-Graduate Diploma in Social Service Administration from National Institute of Social Sciences, Bangalore. After a short stint of service in Industrial field as Labour Welfare and Personnel Officer, he joined a firm of Industrial Law and Personnel Management Consultants. He entered the legal profession in 1976. Later, he became part-time Professor of Law for eight years in Havanur Law College, Bangalore. He had a very successful legal career before being selected as Member-Judicial of Customs, Excise & Gold (Control) Appellate Tribunal, New Delhi in 1989. He was transferred to Southern Bench Chennai in March, 1998 and to Bangalore in March 2004 and took voluntary retirement in July 2009.
Peeran has been deeply interested in Sufism, in study of human growth & development, Urdu & English Poetry. He published his first book The Essence of Islam & Sufism & Its impact on India from New Delhi in 1998. Peeran started penning his experiences initially in Urdu poems in 1997 and from Dec. 1997, he started writing poems in English as well. He has completed thirteen volumes of poems in English: 'In Golden Times, In Golden Moments, A Search From Within, In Silent Moments, A Ray of Light, A Call From The Unknown, New Frontiers, Fountains of Hope, In Rare Moments,In Sacred Moments, Glittering Love, Garden of Bliss and Eternal Quest. He has penned Glass House and Other Short Stories and Indian English Poetry-Searching New Grounds.
Peeran is trustee of International Sufi Centre, Editor of Sufi World a journal on Sufi Culture, Philosophy and Literature (Islamic Spiritualism Tasawwuf). He is author of the book Islam and Sufism; Fundamental of Sufism and A Journey of a Sufi-Sufism and Poetry.
Poets International Bangalore has also nominated him as “Best Poet for 2003”. International Poetry Academy, Chennai has also awarded him with “Best Poet” award for 2009.
Peeran is inspired to write poetry in search of truth and to discover his own self. He is inspired by the theory and practice of Sufism.
