Translation is an interesting and challenging literary genre. Literary Translation is both a science and, more importantly, an art. It has assumed importance in the recent decades, for translation is realized to be essential for promoting emotional cohesion in the country with various languages and cultural variations. In the context of a spurt in translation activity in the recent decades, those interested in this genre need information and guidance. Aspirants and even practitioners need to improve their skills and promote their knowledge in this field. This book is an effort to provide information with some samplers. Literary translation is not a formidable task. It is an enthusiast’s craft with skill and diligence. There is no particular theory or any widely and precisely helpful guide book for help.
Dr. VVB Rama Rao (b. 1938) is a retired English Language Teaching professional. Educated in Maharajah’s College, Vizianagaram and Banaras Hindu University, he has a doctoral degree from Andhra University. He worked in ELT Summer Institutes. He published sixty books in all genres, fiction, poetry, hagiography, historiography, biography and devotional works. Besides translations, he published works on literary translation also. His Anuvaada Darshini in Telugu was published in 2005.
VVB’s Symposium by Mail on Literary Translation, carried in eleven numbers of www.languageinindia.com during 2002-2005, is available in their archives.
Rama Rao’s Insights into Literary Translation and Language in Distinctive Use was published by Authorspress, New Delhi in 2009. This is his latest book dealing with literary translation and translation studies.
