The book gives insights into different marginalized groups with special reference to women, Dalits, communities, caste groups, gender, economic status, poverty, etc. The book assesses the need for contextualizing social exclusion and establishes a relationship between deprivation and discrimination. It studies the complex mixture of Indian society, marked with exclusionary practices and structures to present grassroots level information through empirical investigations and studies by scholars putting together their assorted research studies, perceptions and ideas, their expertise to focus on a central theme of Social Exclusion and Marginal Communities Challenges of Deprivation and Discrimination in Northern India. The prime rationale of book is to bring together the ideas of the stakeholders on issues and challenges of deprivation and discrimination among Marginal Communities facing exclusions and the outcome of various inclusive policies introduced for the inclusion of these marginalized communities in mainstream.
Prof. Jasbir Singh, Professor of Economics, is Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dean Students Welfare and Hon. Director, Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, University of Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir, India. His areas of specialization are- Rural Economics, Human Development and Gender Economics. He teaches Macro Economics, Agriculture Economics, Classical Political Economy and Indian Economic Policy at P.G. & M.Phil. level. He has published seven books and completed six research projects. He has attended and presented research papers in 105 conferences and seminars within and outside the country. He has published 56 research papers in journals and edited volumes of national and international repute. He is member of 14 academic organizations/ associations. He has supervised 14 Ph. D. and 20 M. Phil. scholars. At present 04 scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. research under his supervision. He was selected for Leadership for Academicians Program (LEAP) in 2019 at Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, India and Penn State University, USA.
Prof. Anupama Vohra is Professor of English in the University of Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir. Her areas of research are Gender Studies, Testimonial and conflict literature. She was Fellow in Residence at IIAS, Shimla during 2012-2014. She has seventeen publications in national/ international journals/ edited volume and her book “Feminism in the Fiction of Audrey Thomas” has been published by Anmol Publishers.
Dr. Neharica Subhash, Ph.D. in Sociology, specializes in Social Issues, Gender Studies and Marginal Studies. Working in Centre for Study of Social Exclusion & Inclusive Policy, University of Jammu, she is involved in research on excluded and marginalized communities in Jammu and Kashmir with specific focus on disabled, transgender and caste-based excluded communities.
