The book provides a common platform to explore various critical issues concerning persons with disabilities in general and women with disabilities in specific in a single form. It includes papers of people directly associated with various Institutes working for persons with disabilities which authenticate the various problems highlighted.
It addresses from affective relationships forged by the disabled women in accordance with or challenging the normative construction of their identities as disabled women living in families, current laws and policies pertaining to marriage and disabled people and its applicability to women with “all” kinds of disability, denial in the opportunities for education, training and choice for livelihood for women with disability to representations of gendered disability in school textbooks and the provisions of CSR under the new Companies Act and how it can contribute, accelerate to uplift the disability sector in India.
Dr. Ranjita Dawn works as Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Loreto College, University of Calcutta. She has received her Doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and has been working in the area of Disability Studies in India since the last 17 years. Her association with organizations and schools like Blind Relief Association, National Association for Blind, New Delhi and Lighthouse for the Blind has helped her discover the zeal for addressing the cause of people with disabilities. She has authored many papers in various international and national journals and edited books. She has also authored two books–Psycho-social Dynamics of BlindStudentsand Visual Impairment– aim to bring the problems and issues concerning persons with disabilities to the forefront.
