Ashok K. Kaul


 

 

Ashok K. Kaul is Professor of Sociology at Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Born in Bandipur, Kashmir - Prof. Kaul went to BHU for his higher education, before moving full-time into academics. An acclaimed sociologist, thinker and writer, Prof. Kaul has to his credit five published non-fiction books and a number of articles in leading academic journals across the world and in Indian newspapers. Among his celebrated books are, Kashmir: Fractured Nativity, VDM (Germany) andKashmir: Fractured Nativity, VDM (Germany), Kashmir: Contested Identity, Rawat, 2011. A first-time fiction writer in the long-form, Prof. Kaul is widely known in academic and intellectual circles for his remarkable work. He has an edge with a deep grasp of Sub-continental Social History, including that of Kashmir. He knows Kashmir first hand and from a distance, especially after the unfortunate exodus of Pandits from the Valley in 1990. A social chronicler, a permanent researcher of truth and someone with high human sensibilities, Prof. Kaul is surely a writer well-equipped to present an informed narrative on Kashmir.
