Sheeba Balan
Sheeba Balan was born in the village of Manityur at Payyoli, VadagaraTaluk of Kozhikode/Calicut district. She was educated and brought up in Chennai and studied literature at Queen Mary’s college for a year. In the second year, her mother took her to Kerala and put her in Providence College in the hope that she would get admitted to medical school; but she never took the medical exams and spent three drudging years studying zoology.
In 1992 she completed her graduation in science and came back to Chennai and applied for M.A. in English literature. Her mother sent another application for M.Sc. zoology. She got admission for both and since she could not go for both she sat at home for nearly a month as her mother refused to pay her fees if she pursued literature. Finally after a tug of war for over a month and ten days she took her and got her admission in MA (Literature) at Ethiraj Women’s College,Chennai.
After her post-graduation she taught English for some time and got married in 1995. She now spends her time between Kozhikode, Bengaluru and Dubai with her children and husband and writes poetry.
