This work is an attempt to document the dying Nyishi knowledge and bridge the tradition-modernity gap. The young generation of the Nyishis isbeing driven away from tradition by the looming modernity. The workcovers various aspects of the indigenous knowledge of the Nyishis– crops, vegetables, animals, insects, flies, fruits, ornaments, crafts, tools and equipment and human anatomy. This book contains eighteenchapters with more than six hundred photographs and diagrams.The work will help the new scholars, and enrich and re-orient the Nyishi language and their value system.
Prof. Nabam Nakha Hina, M.A, L.L.B., PhD, teaches Political Science at the Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh.He has contributed several research articles andbooks on the socio-cultural situation and the traditional political institutions of Arunachal Pradesh. His publications include: Customary Laws of Nyishi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, Nyishi Words and Proverbs, Nyishi Socio-Political Movement in Search of Identity, Customary Laws of Thanyi Tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and Customary Laws of Tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.He has also successfully conducted several research projects funded by various agencies.
