Anshuman was in his school when, perchance, he meets his dream girl Sucheta in a flower shop. Love was instant. Their fanciful courtship continued till post graduation. Romance is delightful until one falls between the horns. The mundaneness of marriage and money begins to bite. Anshuman’s dream of leading a lavish life with Sucheta ends in fiasco. Living on extremes makes his life miserable, until Sucheta teaches him the choice of middle path. Will Anshuman be able to accept live on the middle path ? Such a novel may have a beginning and a possible middle but an end looks hazy like the rails which run parallel to each other. They seem to meet, beyond our eyesight, at an imaginary dot. But, it cannot end as the middle path is ever expanding before our eyes.
Narayan Sahu was born in 1947 in Odisha, where he has also spent a lifetime imparting educational services. His childhood and early years at Odisha shaped a lot of his writing, perhaps making him more sensitive to vivid interactions, local culture and festivities. A student of literature for all along, he loves stories, drama, poetry and art in all its myriad forms. Over the years compilations of his short stories, novels and essays have been published. In 2017, Narayan penned his first book Twilight at Maishannapur which portrays the journey of a couple and their love story through a time where gestures and words were the mediums of innocent expressions of love. It is a smart work that has drama, twists, philosophy and a gentle love story. In his latest novel Between Horns, he chronicles the life of a couple through their love and the choices they make living on the middle path. The story effortlessly swings between visceral world of love and the realities of everyday life.
