Major Dr. (Mrs.) Sumitra Mishra, a retired professor and scholar of English language and literature is a sensitive human being who keenly observes and reflects about the society and surrounding around her with a deeply emotional predilection. She writes poems and stories both in English and her mother tongue Odia. She has published four original books in Odia and three in English. Besides numerous poems composed by her have been published in local newspapers and magazines. She is a life member of the Odisha Lekhika Sansad, an organization devoted to the cause of women writers in Odisha.
Flames of Silence is her third collection of English poems after The Soul of Fire and Penelope’s Web. The poems in this collection are reflections about her different experiences of love and hate, nature and society, life and death which reveal the angst of a tender, silent and delicate soul.
