About the Book

With a tradition almost as old as the colonial contact, Indian Drama in English and English translation has always maintained an uneasy relationship with the very root of the Indian tradition of folk and the classical dramatic literature in the vernaculars that is thousands of years old. Though the body has the thinnest generic build up inside the astounding output of Indian Writing in English today, it has generated the most contemplative issues and debates of contemporary relevance, if compared to fiction and poetry. This collection of scholarly papers which were originally presented in the UGC sponsored University BT & Evening College Theatre Conference 2015 explore the contemporary Indian playwrights in English, to arrive at diverse revealing insights for the purpose of the students as well as researchers. It will be a pleasure reading not only for the academicians but for all those who take interest in theatre.
