This book analyze the concept of family, society and culture dealt in various forms of English Literature. Literature acts as a medium to showcase what is happening around us. The subjects of literature have been changing as they cover multiple spheres of life including society and culture. Society acts like back up for culture and tradition of the people in the family it reflects upon and the inhabitants of a group of society share certain similarities with regard to, assumptions, beliefs, caste, creed, myths, religion. Literature combined with culture and other facets both abstract and concrete of family and society, not only presents impalpable subjects like alienation, assimilation and transformation in society but also reflects the palpable issues, such as, historical, political and social facts.
Dr. R. S. Regin Silvest was born on 01 April 1990, at Kanyakumari District in Tamilnadu. He was brought up in a small village named Melpalai at Kanyakumari. He knows English, Tamil and Malayalam languages. He has received elementary education from Good Shepherd Matriculation School Marthandam and completed Secondary School Examination in 2005 and Higher Secondary Examination in 2007 at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School Melpalai. With a strong desire to learn literature he has joined B.A. Literature in English at S.T. Hindu College Nagercoil affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Tirunelveli and completed in 2010 then joined M.A. Literature in English at S.T. Hindu College Nagercoil in 2010 and completed in 2012. During his study at S.T. Hindu College he took part in many literary activities. He worked in NSS during his B.A. Degree and got Best Volunteer Award. He took charge in College Association as UG Department Secretary and PG Department Secretary. During his PG Degree he worked as Organizing Secretary in Friday Forum and presented a research paper. After successful completion of Master Degree he has joined as full-time PhD Research Scholar at Annamalai University under the guidance of Dr. K. Rajaraman, Professor and Head, Department of English Annamalai University. He has actively participated in Department Research Forum and presented paper. He has presented various research papers in National and International Seminars. His area of specialization is American Literature. He is also interested in Indian and British Literature. He has published more than 10 research papers in various reputed journals and books. Currently working as Assistant Professor, Department of English, Malankara Catholic, Mariagiri, Kanyakumari. He has organized two One Day National Seminars. He has edited 4 books and he is the Editor-in-Chief of a journal “DJ Journal of English Language and Literature” (DJ JELAL).
A. R. Jemi was born on 10th June 1992 in a small village Thalavaipuram, Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district, Tamilnadu. Her parents are Mr. A. Amalorpava Raj and Dr. G. Jacquline Jesulet. She knows English and Tamil languages. She completed her schooling in Little Flower Girls Higher Secondary School, Nagercoil. With an insatiable desire to learn literature, she joined B.A English in Holy Cross College, Nagercoil in 2009. She completed B.A in 2012 with first class with distinction. She completed M.A and M.Phil. in 2014 and 2015 respectively with first class with distinction in the same institution. She has attended 13 National and International Seminars and published 5 research articles in National and International refereed Journals and ISBN Books. She has been working at St. Jerome’s College of Arts and Science, Anandanadarkudy, Nagercoil, since June 2015. Her area of specialization is Indian Writing in English moreover she is interested in Regional Literature, Ecocriticism and Eco-Literature. She has been a trainer in English language skills in SIEFL in 2013. She has also handled spoken English course for the beginners at Holy Cross College in 2014. She has been a Proficiency Prize winner from B.A to M.Phil. She has also received the Best Outgone Student’s Award in B.A, M.A and M.Phil. for her academic excellence. Recently, she gave a guest lecture to the M. Phil scholars of Holy Cross College, Nagercoil on “Psychoanalytic Criticism” on 7th September, 2016. She has cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) in July, 2016. She is pursuing PhD under the guidance of Dr. P. Kolappadas, Associate Professor of English at S. T. Hindu College, Nagercoil.
