This book is a novel presentation of Indian History after Independence. It is interesting and easy to understand especially for those who are new to the study of Indian History. To facilitate easy understanding, the meaning of few historical words has been written with a heading ‘glossary’. Separate chapters are allotted for the information regarding Integration of the Indian States before and after Independence, establishment of Parliament, Powers of the President and Prime Minister and some basic information on major political parties. The book also has specific chapter on politics of Punjab and Kashmir. Mention is made about some Anti-poverty schemes separately. All the Indian States are mentioned in the last chapter with necessary historical information and few tourist places. Some information about few prominent leaders makes its appearance in the annexure part. The book is fairly comprehensive and therefore is a valuable collection for personal and public libraries.
The author of the book Smt. V. Sulochana Devi belongs to Andhra Pradesh.After qualifying for a Doctor’s degree in 1973 from Kurnool Medical College, Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), she took up private medical practice. So, far, the author has two publications to her credit: (1) The English version of Sree Madandra Mahabharata Namasarvasva(originally written in Telugu by Sri Putha Pulla Reddy), printed at Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, 2013 and (2) Brief History of India (upto 1947), published by Anmol Publications, New Delhi, 2015.The present book India in Brief 1947-2014 is the second book in her series of Indian history.
