Society fashions literature. Literature and society are in a constant state of evolution. As society progresses, it faces fresh and intriguing issues that challenge humanity and as literature evolves, it engineers novel ways of creatively and artistically expressing and challenging the issues facing the society. Representations of social issues and political debates creatively in literature allow us to critically evaluate and hopefully explore the possibilities for a better society. The essays in this volume creatively, critically and analytically investigate the implications of issues pertaining to literature and social contexts.

Dr. P. Prayer Elmo Raj is an Assistant Professor in the PG & Research Department of English, Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai. He is the author of Theology of Religions in the Context of Fundamentalism (2013) and Book of Job: A Literary Response (2014), co-author of Essays on Global Literature (2014), co-editor of Engaging with Disabilities (2015), editor of Religion, Politics and Secularism in India (2016).
