Basavaraj Naikar (1949), MA, PhD, DLitt (California), Is Professor And Chairman, Department Of English At Karnatak University, Dharwad, Karnataka, India. A Creative Writer, Translator And Bilingual Critic, He Has Written Both In Kannada And English.

The Thief Of Nagarahalli And Other Stories Was Shortlisted For The Commonwealth Fiction Prize For The Best First Book From Eurasia In The Year 2000. The Sun Behind The Cloud, A Historical Novel, And The Rebellious Rani Of Belavadi And Other Stories Were Published In 2001 And Well Received By The Critics. He Reviews Indian Literary Works Regularly For World Literature Today (Oklahoma, USA). He Has Received The Gulbarga University Award And Vasudeva Bhupalam Award For Translation; Olive Reddick Prize For Research And Gemini Academy Award For Literature. His Research Interests Include Shakespeare Studies, Indian English Literature, Anglo-Indian Literature, Commonwealth Literature And Translation Studies. He Has A Passion For Music And Philosophy.
